Im having issues with my exhaust knocking/rubbing in 2 places, under the handbrake and around the rear beam area. Its the first time ive had these issues, probably due to the fact im running a 20V T exhaust from cat-back.

Would I be right in thinking the exhaust probably needed moved alittle??

Also i have the exhaust held onto the 2 rear hangers, the one before the rear beam (passenger side) and the one after the rear beam, with jubilee-clips as the hangers on the exhaust are different to the hangers of a standard 1.4 exhaust. They hangers on the exhaust are straight whereas the standard 1.4 hangers curve round.

Would i be able to change my hangers for the ones off a mk3? (Cupra or 1.4 as i dont know if they are different) also would the fitting of the hangers be easy enough to do? As in, will they be a straight swap?

If not can someone suggest what the best option would be, and losing the 20v T exhaust isnt an option!! :p

cheers,

Craig.

Would i get away with drilling a hole the other way through the exhaust rubber? And would it be strong enough if did that?

I was thinking of changing the whole mounting point, including the bracket that attaches to the car so the hole of the rubber was the other way.

hi, i had that prob wiv mine, its a magnex on my gti, after alot of messing around one of my clever friends found 2 probs, 1st one was that wen the exhaust got taken off last it wasnt put bk on rite so i got some new exhaust clamps as they were knackered then used a trolly jack to lift it so it didnt rub on the rear axel, then tighted the new clap up, that sorted that 1, the other one by your hand break...... i had a decat made for my car, and it knocked from the day it went on after inspecting closely i noticed the original cat has a very slight angle to it but the de cat was straight, so that might b the prob wiv yours dont know how that 2 exhausts match up.

I will have a look at the knocking by the handbrake and see if that is the problem. Although it didnt do it when i first got the new system put on. It was alright for 2-3weeks then started so I think it may have slipped a mount or something.

Im alittle unsure what you mean regarding the rear. I get the bit about using the trolley jack. If you have any pics that would be a help. I think with the hangers and that being different thats whats causing the knocking on the rear axle. The backbox will be removed from the hangers as a need to cut alittle bit of the bumper away cos when the car is idling its knocking.

I get the knocking under the handbrake when i accelerate. From what I have read before I think it is something to do with the cat heat shield or something like that, need to rip it out apparently. Might be the same thing.

I will try that, but from the sound of it its like its hitting against the body of the car, directly under the handbrake. Used to do it everytime i turned left but now its only certain times, not everytime

Thats what mine sounds like too. I'm gonna try that anyway and see what happens.
Mine only happens under acceleration, it is really starting to piss me off.
