Exhaust Options

Hi Guys

At the moment I have modified my stock exhaust. I have had the existing tail pipe (the pea shooter that was connected to the back box) removed and had a nice stainless steel oval pipe fitted. This was purely for styling and gives no performance increase at all.

Now I am thinking of getting a performance exhaust system fitted, but not sure what type to go for? I want one that will show a slight increase in performance, but one that doesnt sound over the top. Im not going for the boy racer image.

The FR exhaust, would this need to be purchased from the dealer?

Using any sort of stock box ( FR or Cupra) is gonna be exepnsive unless you can get hold of someones second hand one. However sound will be marginal and performance the same.

You have a couple of options. I do not want to say powerflow as i am very against any of the work i have seen any of them do.

But look at a known Motorsport custom exhaust maker, not all are expensive. there is a guy over in essex who my mates have all used who does bespoke exhausts. The results are amazing and some of the guys have seen a real increase in drivability.

Or how about a universal box from one of the big comapnies. Magnex do a range of universal boxes, would just need a small amount of work to custom fit the box to existing pipe work.

Or do as i did and just phone up someone like Milltek and convince them of a case do design one. I mean if i had never done that Milltek would not have done a Mk4 exhaust in the first place. You may have to lend the car for a week or so, but its worth it.
