Exhaust knocking

I've had a problem with my Coroba for a few months now, its a 2.0 16v sx. However the centre section keep benging in to a plate that is bolted horizontally across the underside just behind it. Is this a common problem on these cars? Can the plate just be removed?

Is this the heatplate you're talking about? If so its a common problem, but the one I'm thinking of is above the exhaust.

Its not the heatshield, its a plate that sites right behind the centre section , the pipe out the back of the centre section goes over it. Its about 5 inches long and its held on by two nuts either side.

sounds like one of you rubber exhaust hangers has perished, causing the exhaust to drop.

they're not that expensive IIRC.

Think the bracket is there to hold the exhaust up if the mounts fail all together, like in your case. Otherwise the exhaust would hit the floor, and is potentially dangerous.

first thing I did was replace all the rubber mounts - the two on the back box and the one on the centre section.
