Right I have a mapped tdi 140, i was coming down the motorway last night and a friend was behind me. I was going fairly fast (wont say for legal reasons), i had my foot down then let off because i saw a car in the distance brake, which then moved over so i planted it again.

At this point my friend behind is flashing me like mad and as i look in my mirror i could see the tip of a flame :S. Pulled over to see what the hell was going on, and he said that there was a huge cloud of smoke then flames shot out, but the thing that concerns me most is that he said there was also some sparks.

Does anyone have experience of this, or shed some light on it as it isnt normal and i dont want something expensive to need replacing. Also this is the first time on higher cetane since the map.

Thanks.

Haha cheers for that, i was crapping it thinking my turbo was going to go boom or somthing :)
Still though the huge flames would that be put down to unburnt fuel? I thought diesel couldnt just ingnite like that though because it has to be compressed

I had this a few years ago with my superchipped fiat punto jtd only done it above 100 mph and what the sparks are is the inside of your exhaust silencer getting burnt off with the extra heat like wire wool. My punto never came to any hurt over 30000 miles but I got a fright the first time like back to the future:D Kev

haha mufflerectomy DIY style then. i dont understand the flames though, surely all the restrictions on a standard exhaust wouldnt allow it
