Yes the tread is all the same now. A couple of weeks ago i had a puncture in one of the back ones and had to put the spare wheel on which is smaller. I thought maybe it messed everything up so ive disconnected the battery over night to try and reset the ecu. I havent reconnected it yet so ill have to see if its made any difference.

Ive just been out to my car and re-connected my battery and have taken it for a spin but its still playing up!! I am totally stumped!!! What i could do is find someone with a diagnostic machine and plug it in while im driving and see what fault codes come up when im driving?!

Other than that i really dont know. I left it with Bournemouth garage and they thought it was the brake microswitch so they changed that but didnt take it for a test drive. When i drove out the garage it was still goosed so i took it back and said it wasnt fixed, they told me they couldnt see it again cos my slot had been taken. NICE[:@]

Since then i am very reluctant to take it back to them cos i got messed around a bit!

I have a feeling that it says to turn off the ESP when you are using the spare. Are your current wheels the original ones or aftermarket ones? You might just need the code clearing.

If you have paid for what they have done, then I'd reckon that they have an obligation to dig deeper without hitting you hard with more fault diagosing time! As the modules that affect/control the ESP action are meant to be "smart" modules, then they should be able to provide some assistance to the garage if they plug in a scan tool. If not then VAG have fitted some bit of crap to this car. BTW, the intention is for any logged fault to remain held in the individual controller/modules memory - until cleared with a scan tool.

Ive bitten the bullet and have booked it into the seat garage at swindon on tuesday! Hopefully they will be better than the one in bournemouth!! I will be checking the alternator wires though!!

Ive read about the abs keeping faults. Is there a separate ecu for the abs? I guess that never got cleared when i took it to the garage!!!

Oh well, will soon find out the problem on tuesday! Hopefully it wont cost an arm and a leg! Cheers for everyones input! Very much appreciated!!

Oh yes, there is a seperate controller for the ABS - I've forgotten, but I'm sure it will be an enhanced one that includes the ESP functions as well.

Thanks to muddyboots (& Techie) for this info.
I 've also had the ESP light on after 10 minutes problem. Took it to dealers today - told them where to look and lo & behold. (Damned if'll do it whilst it's still under warranty)
