Hi,

I've got a headlight range control error that comes up. Rarely happens during the day but happens quite often in the evening when its dark. When i start the car, the headlights do their self levelling test and then work fine. However randomly after a few mins, ill get the error that says Headlight Range Control, as well as this, it also says Please check left dipped beam headlight & please check right dipped beam headlight. I have checked the sensor on the back axle passenger side and the sensor is all in tact and fine. Could it possibly be the module thats had enough? Lights work fine and the cornering works fine too. When in ODIS, i did see the headlights were showing and i even did a test on them but the control unit for the headlight range control was light grey (as though it couldnt see it). It also gave me a code of J745, not sure if that helps? Thank you for your help and advice guys, appreciate it!

J745 is the identifier of the multifunction control unit. The actual fault code might tell you what's wrong.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I can’t find the actual code stored anywhere at all. I’ve checked all modules including the headlight itself and no errors there..?

This is the only guided fault that could see that was linked to the headlight issue.. But when going through it, it would just say:

Make sure that the control unit having the diagnostic address 0055 is installed.

The test you've selected is for ABS. If you look below it tells you there that the fault is in 4B. So read the event memory in 4B. Have you had training to use ODIS or is a cracked copy?...

4B is complaining that it's received an error message or communication issue so it's unlikely the actual issue is in 4B

That version of ODIS is extremely old and it won't be legitimate, it's likely owned by somebody that doesn't know how to use it.

Ahh okay makes sense, i’ll have a look at 4B.. It’s someone else’s Odis that i’m using, it’s their laptop and odis kit that they’ve given me to use. Thanks for the help so far i really appreciate it

Hi,

I’ve gone into special functions and erased fault memory for the whole car. Covered the headlight sensor on the outside of the car and then turned it back on.. So far got the following codes:

Brake Electronics: U11210 - Databus missing message (00001001 active/static)

Instrument cluster has 2 codes both the same:
U112100 - Databus missing message…

Climate control module: Refrigerant pressure lower limit not reached.. I know this is due to having no AC in the system.

Data Bus OBD Interface: Lost communication with the cruise control front distance range sensor (active/static)… i know this is the front module that was replaced a while back with a used one but just never coded in..

Information electronics… This is due to it saying front assist unavailable..

So far headlight codes haven’t come back on.. I’ve tried forcing it by putting tape infront of the sensor to force it to think it’s dark but nothing… Any ideas or do i have to just wait and drive around until the code comes back on?

The sensor you've covered in the windscreen is only for RLS, rain and ambient light measurement. Nothing to do with the 4B module or your headlight operation.
Hi Craig.. oh my bad i thought it was also a sensor for lights.. Any idea where the sensor is for the lights so i can cover it and force them to come on?

Covering that sensor should activate the headlights but you can turn them on by the actual light switch.......
Yeh i’ve done both mate, covered and then even turned them on manually and still not got the headlight error code… So must be something intermittent i’m guessing?

Your headlight range control faults, most probably, have nothing to do with the light sensor.
If any sensor is involved in this, that would be the headlight level sensor that measures the height so it could set the headlight leveling.
