Error codes galore

I started my Ibiza yesterday and the Power Steering warning light and buzzer came on. Not good! I turned it off and restarted and the light was off. Good! Unfortunately the Engine Diagnosis light was on instead. Not good!

I phoned up Robinsons, Lowestoft this morning and they told me to bring it straight away and they would check it out. Good! I did that and after they had hooked it up, they told me that there were so many error codes showing that at that time they didn't know what was wrong but it seemed to be pointing to the ABS Unit. Not good!

They have lent me a courtesy car until they can sort it out. Good! Unfortunately it is a nearly new Ibiza Award 1.2. Good or not good? So now I am waiting for the phone call to let me know what is happening as they will have to order the ABS Unit if it is the problem. Not good! :(

I finally got my car back from the dealers today after five days waiting for the parts to arrive and so far it's free of warning lights. According to the warranty form they replaced the ABS ECU and bled the system.

It was quite a shock driving the FR again after a 1.2. The clutch seemed incredibly heavy and the biting point was a lot lower than I had become used to – I nearly broke my neck the first time I released it. When I first used the brakes it seemed as if it wasn't going to stop until I pressed really hard but as soon as I accelerated on the dual carriageway I remembered why I bought the car. All that lovely power! The handling and lack of roll are so much better and I think I prefer the harder ride to the slightly spongy feel of the 1.2.

The only minus point for the service department was that they hadn't re-entered the security code for the radio so I had to sort that tonight.

All good then. if you'r enot happy with the brakes, don't be scared to take it back!
No mine felt like that when i got mine back after having a 1.2 but then i got use to them and when they get up to temperature they are much better than 288mm standard ones.

Exactly. It just took me a while to readjust to the difference. As I was leaving the dealership I braked gently but nothing much happened which took me by surprise, but on the way home I had to brake really hard at a roundabout from about 80mph and they felt much more reassuring than the 1.2's.

I was amazed at just how differently the cars drove. The 1.2 was actually the better car around town – light clutch, more sensitive brakes and more cushy ride – but on the open road the FR feels really brutish and quite exhilarating to drive. :)
