Hey guys. did a vag com scan last night and its come up with:

00944 - Heated Exterior Mirror: Passenger Side (Z5)
35-00 - -
01039 - Coolant Temperature Sensor (G2)
30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent

Didnt even know it had heated mirrors?

But the coolant temp sensor.. what does it mean and where is it lol?

Ive got a 1.6 8v SE

Any replacement part codes etc would be helpful :)

Thanks

Sorry, forgot about that!!

You need to check the conections mate, that fault code means there isn't a supply to the heater. You might be able to take it apart and see, hopefully you won't need to buy a new one!!!!

I think, in terms of the Temp Sensor, the dealers are just as good as its a cheap part and a known problem so they will be able to find the part on there system.

I don't know if the part numbers are the same. I would be supprised if they are different but don't know for sure.

Glad you found it mate. They aren'y really servicable to be honest and the error code "open or short" means its electrical and there is a short circuit in the sensor. New ones aren't that expensive I don't think.

As for the mirror.... There might be one or both on ebay to swap. Perhaps even the facelift ones??

Good luck!

just to update, replace the temp sensor and replaced all the coolant liquid, and just from testing it today the lumpy idle has gone! :) Will clear codes with vag com in the morning and continue to monitor. However thanks for all your help :)

Reviving this thread as I've got the same fault code (and a car that I could swear the mpg has dropped off, stutters at low revs in 1st and 2nd esp after startup, and idles high after startup).

Going to change the sensor as the guide looks like its not too hard - bit concerned of spouting coolant everywhere - if the car is properly cold (overnight) will the coolant stay where its supposed to?

Also can I check that the part numbers are valid for a 2002 1.8T Cupra (180bhp):

Temperature Sender (Green) Part#: 059-919-501A - £28.45
O-Ring Part#: N90316802: £1.05
Retaining Clip Part#: 032-121-142: £0.45

(Prices from local VW garage.)

EDIT// Bought these parts - was dead easy to change and took about 3 mins following the guide. Left the car to cool overnight and left the coolant cap on as it holds the vacuum so should help in it not leaking out. 01039 Error code now gone! Cheers to thread contributors!
