Erratic Idle.

Picked up my new old Cordoba SX 16v yesterday and ive spent today tinkering.
I have an erratic idle, which ive looked on here for tips on how to sort. Ive done the usual vaccum hose checks, throttle body cleaning and breather pipe checks but the problem still exists.
Is there anything else i should be looking for?
Ive got an MOT booked for Wednesday so im half expecting a nice long list of jobs in addition to this.
Why does it always happen when youre skint?
So far ive got the following jobs to do when ihave the time,
Rattling at the back of the engine compartment, suspected heatshield.
leaky rocker cover gasket.
Remove stupid gear lever lock.
Bodywork touch ups.
Its pretty low mileage at 78k and goes pretty well, especially after i changed the original rotor arm, how it ran at all was a mystery!
Any hints with regards to my idle issue gratefully recieved.

I've got a Cordoba S from 1999 that has the same sort of issue although it's only when I start the engine. After about 10 minutes it settles down but when I first start it it can idle anywhere between 1000 and 1700 revs. I'm wondering if it's the idle valve on the way out but I don't really know? Any ideas?

Hi, My Cordoba does the same thing! At first start up it has a high idle speed around 2000rpm which reduces as the car warms up. It settles around 1000 which is still too high. Did you manage to find out what was causing your problem? Is it just as simple case of cleaning the throttle body? Or did you need to renew any parts too?
