Was out for a drive 2nite when... i lost 1st/2nd/3rd/4th gears.. you can get it into gear but its very very hard to do.... have to really force it..

Before this i had the stiff clutch pedal and it had started to creak..

could just be your cable shift has broken, most garages should be able to sort it.
make sure nothing has fallen into the path of the selector under the bonnet (right hand side of the engine bay, there is a black handle type thing)

yeah theyre rods aint they? may be the rod thats bent or something thats got in its path. Get the car up on ramps or jacked up and get someone to watch the moving parts while you change gear may lead to the cause. Was a bent heatshield on my mates fiesta.

085 - and it's rod change.

jack it up - and check there's not a load of crap in the 'rod' linkage at the back of the gearbox

it's not the same linkage as on the golf gtis

Sounds like what happened to my 1.4. Needed a new box after losing 1 2 and 3, and also shattering the housing around the gearbox!

If thats the case.. its gone.. i aint spending much money on it.. already spent about £500 on the thing.. its only worth £700 or something lol..

Will have a look myself 2moro see if its anything i can fix or anything that looks fixable...

Just had this MSN convo with a friend.. and i think ive explained it better this time..

right.. clutch has been stiff since i got it.. and lately its been hard to get into reverse/1st/2nd
then last night.. i heard a click.. and i couldnt get it into any gear unless i forced it big time..
but when pulling away from 1st the clutch still works as normal.. ie i can find the biting point etc
just cant diengage it to get it into gear..

If the engine aint running then you can put it into gear fine also..

Make better sense?.. its the 1995 1.4 csl by the way..

Sounds like a problem mine has, not about getting the car into gear - but the stiff'ness of the clutch... Are all cable clutches supposed to be stiffer than say a Hydraulic clutch on a Jap car? I tried WD40'ing the clutch adjuster cable on the right hand side of t'engine but to no joy really..

Seems this is a common enough prob??

possibly the clutch cable then relatively easy to sort if your mechanically minded. The ibiza's are know for their dodgy clutch cables, however i would bit ethe bullet and get a professional to give it the once over. Not cost effective but then you know where you stand.
