Just got my 30,000 miles service/5year service & MOT coming up within the span of a few weeks of each other, so i'm getting them done together.

Phoned the SEAT garage who had done all previous servicings etc on this little car.

Er, so apparently some law came into force last year requiring my cam belt to be changed every 5 years or something, and that i'm pushing my luck not having it done sooner? Because I was made aware of that... when? And then apparently my oil change is due, which I thought was part of the 30k service... ANY service anyway?

So yeah, my problem was him reckoning it was worth charging me £640 for.

This is Cheshunt SEAT. Opinions? I've never owned a car before that needed that much money pumped into it for a single service & MOT, so this could be normal.

I've only got a bloody 1.6, that bill alone is nearly as much as I pay for insurance!

i thought and it is only a thought it was 5 years or 60,000. oil changes again i thought were part of a service especially a main one like 30,000. seems a little strange tho. might be worth ringing another stealer if they agree with the opinons of Cheshunt.

Seems mega bucks...... Ask around your locality for some independent 'non franchised' garages with a good reputation, would have though £350 for parts & labour absolute max.
Careful with timing belts though, time is a very relavent factor. I did a repair on a Clio 1.2 a few months ago, 'V' reg, 40k miles, one owner, belt snapped, 4 bent exhaust valves, one inlet valve + headbolts, gaskets, etc - £350 bill, ching, ching, thank you! (and thats cheap!).

the manual for my lcr suggests the cam belt should be checked at 60k or 5 years whichever comes first, bare in mind these belts are made of rubber and deteriorate over time. i would get the belt and water pump done (i am having mine done at my 50k service this year).

price seems steep though so shop around for a better deal.

That seems a bit steep.Try and find a local independant VW Audi garage .They tend to be cheaper and do a better job .I dont let Seat anywhere near my LCR after a few bad experiences .I paid £300 for a cam belt service including all parts and about £150 for an annual service . An oil change is always part of a service
