In need of a bit of help...

A while back I went to start the car and it would just not fire up as if there was no fuelling or immobiliser fault, It did it again the other morning when we had a lot of rain and left it 10mins and was absolutely fine again so just ignored it.

Last night ran vagcom for some faults and found: 16705 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Implausible Signal

After reading this cuts out any fuelling as a safety feature so explains the starting issue, it’s only done this twice over last few months so thinking maybe just a connection problem and may just need the senor having a good clean.

I’ve tried to find some more info on the sensor but can’t seem to find any, does anyone know where this is located? Is it by the oil filter on the bottom of the block?

Thanks!
Mat

Right, it took me 25mins just to get the car started at work.

It just would not tick over, the longer i kept the key turning over the oil light would come on & beep, 25mins later it started fine and ran no problem.

I havn't had chance to plug in vagcom until i get home but im presuming its the same fault this engine speed sensor!

Anybody had any similar problems & know where the sensor is located?

Thanks

I've also had problems which appeared to be the engine speed sensor however I've not had much luck finding information on here.

Judging by the information I have been able to piece together it's located next the the oil filter and held in with one bolt so should in theory be easy enough to remove.

I'm led to believe it should similar to the image below.

Hope this helps.

Only the last post on the mkiv site relates to the speed sensor though. I'm pretty sure its more than a tenner though!

Sorry to resurrect this thread. This is the only error my Vagcom is showing up. Had no problems as yet but thought i'd pre-empt it. Did you find a cheap one? And did it sort the problems out?

I've got the same issue G28 is the code for the speed sensor. GSF and euro car parts don't seem to stock the part. May have to be genuine part :-(
