Engine Rattle

Hi everyone .. Ive done a search on the above but could find a answer to my question so here goes ..


When i start my engine up in on a cold morning i get a buzzing type rattle for a couple of seconds .. is this a common thing or should i get it checked out? But also when i switch the car off i hear a loud rattle from the engine .. hope there isnt something wrong with the car if anyone can help

Buzzin is the secondary air pump, nothing to worry about.

The turn off rattle is the flywheel, put your foot on the clutch when you switch off and it shouldnt do it.

Cheers mate .. good to here cos i it did worry me for a while , someone told me that the hydralic lifters might be on the way out with a noise like that!

mine makes a slight tapping noise from the top end on cold start ups, last for a few seconds then goes away. Think its just the lifters need a few seconds to fill with oil. Mine also rattles when I switch off, will try with the clutch down

on 20 year old tatty cars thats wot a person would think
on a 5 year old car with a strong engine its unlikely but possible?

another thing this could be is carbon filter for the cat. its a black box on the drivers side of the engine. this making a noise is also normal

Also the cam chain tensioner can give problems, but this isn't common.
