Engine rattle, any ideas?

Ive got a bit of a rattle comeing from the valver, its more like a tapping noise on tick over but when you drive along and get it to 2500 rmp its a zzzzzzzzz for a split second as the car revs past it and the noise stops.

At first I thought that the heat sheild on the manifold had come lose but it looks ok, so I am thicking now it could either be the tappets of the timing chain?

Is this a common fault?

To me it doesnt sound like the tappets because ive had tappety engines before and its not quite the same noise.

16v don't have timing chains......... its a belt and tensioner system. You might want to get it checked if its coming from that area

Exhaust heatshield, i would check it again. isn't there one by the cat too?

it's an ABF..accept it and move on! I though mine was knackered untill I realised they all sound like an old ford cvh!...untill you boot it that is! then they sound like a screaming rally car on twin 45 dcoe's! sort of! there is something about the rattly noise of an abf in the "you know you have a mk2 ibiza when..." thread

They do have timing chains, there is one linking the two cams!

I just didnt want it to be the chain then snap lol

Its a bit weird... I might just not worry about it and see what hapens lol
