Engine oil for 2.0TDI (2015 Leon)

Hi all,

I own a 2015 Leon estate (2.0TDI)

It sufferers with the known oil burn fault of the engine so I do have to top it up every now and again.

The garage I take my car to is a VW specialist and they put in Shell Helix 0W-30

I’ve always purchased Castrol Edge 5W-30

Both the Shell and Castrol oils show in the compatibility tools from Halfords and Euro car parts

Is it an issue mixing two different oils like this? And which one is the correct one to use?

Cheers,

Sam

Hi,
How much oil do you burn? how many miles do you go - per litre of oil you put in?
As long as the oil is 507 approved either will be fine. The 0w30 is the newer version.

I've recently changed my mind on oils - previously only buying the premium ones.
The VAG 507 is a tough oil standard to meet. VW share a list of oils which are approved - last oil I used was Manoil 507 which is cheap - and officially approved by VW to 507 spec and is in their list.
If this cheaper oil meets the required spec - why spend more!?
There is a difference to approved - and equivalent to.
Equivalent to is just marketing speak for we think it should be ok.
To say approved - it has to be actually tested and approved against the specification.
