Engine Management light.

THEACE

Is there only a problem with the Engine Management system if the Light is flashing.

What if the light is just on and stuck on?

I was told when I brought the car that it was on because there's an adjustable air pressure booster attached to the turbo. Or could it be the fact that my water pump had gone. Just about to pick the car up tommorow, hoping the light has gone off.

The garage didn't mention the light when they installed the new water pump..

As I said on my post , my engine mangement is on all the time due to the coil failure , Seat have said that this is alright until it is reset but I must admit it does frighten me to see it on ( don't want anything else to go wrong !! )

the one thing i would say is dont just take ppls word for it. the light should not be on at all. is the garage a seat dealer???

it could be to do with the water pump failure although it would not detect the water pump failure directly it could be related.

neil - was the coil pack fix and the light remained on because they forgot to clear faults? either way i recommend not driving the car with the light on

The coil was replaced and the light stayed on , the AA man said I had to take it to the dealer to get it reset , but the light went out the next day . Is this ok ??

Each time the car is started it does like a diagnostic check, it has recycled the ECU and found the problem it had has now gone, ie new coil pack(s), so it has now turned out the light, the fault will be logged in the ECU though, no need to take it if you dont want to, they will clear it at service time now.

Unless of course it reilluminates, in which case you should go back to them, as it may show to be another underlying problem.

But if the light is out, you shouldnt have anything to worry about, but the safest thing to do if in doubt, is go back to a dealer and get them to look into it.

If your light is flashing, dont drive it! - it could turn to be something serious. If the light is staying on and not flashin them it should be safe to drive but it much be checked asap. Water pumps dont turn E.M.L on. If the water pump had gone your temp light would be flashing as water isnt constanly moving and not cooling down.
