Engine Management Light on intermittently - fault code 17664

Hi there,

First post, but been lurking for a while now. Great forums!

Need some advice - I have a 2003 Seat Leon SX TDI. I've had a problem with engine management light appearing intermiitently, but car itself seems to be running fine. I have a VAG fault code reader and read the code off as 17664 which unfortunately wasn't listed in my supplied manual.

However the guide here shows it as:
17664 P1256 Engine Coolant Temp.Circ Open/Short to B+

Now I'm no mechanic so what does this mean, should I get it to a garage asap or am I ok to keep on driving it until I can get it in?

Cheers for any advice...

Hi mate did you ever find out the problem with this as i have a Audi A4 TDi with same error code. Engine managment lights comes on ever now and again and diag machine says it has a sporadic problem with the code P1256 17664.
I was just going to change the coolant sensor, sounds like your problem is the same as mine.

Thanks.

I wish people would use the search function, thats what its there for:rolleyes:

Seriously guys, this is probably the most common fault with the car and there are thousands of posts regarding this subject. We dont need yet another thread:banned:

Yes plenty of posts with no real answers, all very well if people identified the problems and the cures instead of speculating. A list of error codes with no fixes doesn't really help that is why i asked the question.

Hiya,

Yes - did get it sorted. It was the coolant sensor which as Mitchy says and my local VW specialist told me is a very common fault.

Cost me about £55 incl labour to get it fixed.

Cheers...
