engine management light came on today

Hi Folks,

I've had a problem with my car this morn. My engine management light came on today on way to work, then it went off, when it had gone off i lost all power (felt like i had no turbo and wouldn't rev above 2300rpm ?limp mode?) then light came back on after 30 secs and felt like i had full power again, then 2mins later light went off and i again was in limp mode for a min or so, engine management light came back on and stayed on and full power was restored.

Booked it in with dealer and typically when i came to drive it in to them light wasn't on and it seamed at full power. My problem is will they still be able to trace a fault because if they can't they say i will owe an hours labour for the privilege of them checking for faults and reseting the ecu, surely having to reset ecu shows its not fully clear of faults and therefore should i still have to pay or should warrenty cover it. its an 06 plate Ibiza TDi FR.

Thanks in advance.

ps. should i ask for a print out from the ecu to get fault codes for myself so i can post them on here for others to pass comment???

i believe the ECU can be reset manually.

I think, and don't quote me on this, you leave the battery disconnected for 2 - 3 hours. Make sure you have your radio code. This should clear the faults, alternativly, find someone with vag-com to checkit out for you?

Thanks for the offer Ric and sorry for late reply, They phoned me back from dealership yesterday and told me i had a leaking EGR valve and knackered manifold sensor (?presume maybe inlet manifold sensor). So least they found a problem that should hopefully be covered by the warrenty. However it wont be ready till wednesday due to having to order part and being booked up with work next week. [:@]

You only need to disconnect the battery for ~30 mins to reset the ECU BUT it will still store and fault codes. And if there is a problem with the car (which there must be for the EML to come on in the first place) the EML will just come back..
