Engine Light - VagCom Results

Hi,

My engine light went on a week before last for 3 days, then went off, it then went a week and has now been on for 2 days ... managed to get her connected to a VAGCOM and got the following engine fault

Engine #1
17704 - Error in mapped cooling system (usually temp sensor or thermostat)
P1296 - 35.00
Control Module: 1ML 906 032 A
Component and/or version: 1.8l R4/5VT
Software coding: 10510
Workshop code: WSL 00000

Any ideas on this? The car drives fine, no obvious effects on power/performance etc, just a orange glow on the dash!

Hi,
Plenty of posts about this error if you do a search for 17704
Looked at a couple which seemed to give the answer.
Do a search and also check out the VAG-COM & Diagnostic section of the forum.

I had this problem, was a bust Temp sensor. Got it repaired under warranty

The LCR isnt under warrenty (53 reg early 2004), just done some searching and it appears I need a new temperature sender with the green top not the black top. Just sent my local dealer an email asking for a quote on the price, hopefully pick it up tomorrow.
