Can someone please tell me where the engine management system is located in an Ibiza 1.4L W Reg (2000)?

Need to know before I discuss something with the dealer tomorrow.

Thanks

what do you want to actually do?

access it, or replace it?

The ECU is under the wiper tray, but if you just want to interrogate it, the port is under the steering wheel above the fusebox

The mothers car had a water pump go on her Ibiza in October. Since then the car hasnt been right. Temp gauge not working and internal heating system always blowing cold.

She took it into the dealers for them to check, as the heating and temps all relate to the initial issue.

They called me today as she didnt understand what they was telling her, and they have said that the EMS is badly corroded and there is an electrical fault in the loom. They gave me a price of circa £2000 to replace the EMS and loom including labour!

Now the history on the car itself. One silly old biddy who drives like miss Daisy. Car has covered 25k since 2000 when bought new. Always serviced by the dealer of purchase.

Now do we look for a new car or try and get it fixed?

Thanks

I bet the dealer is wrong.....

internal heater isn't related to the ECU at all, in fact I don't think the temp gauge is either.

I wonder if the mpg is crap too? if so - i wonder if the thermostat is jammed open & the car never warms up (on a short run?)

does it ever do a long run?

I've taken it for a gentle drive as I out to the M25 and back (5 miles each way) and the car never really gets up to temp. I stopped to get some shopping on the way back and when I got back in it was warm on the heater side until I started driving which would indicate the thermostat.

The dealers have always been good, but I had thought the same.

I know a decent mechanic, and get him to have a look.

Thanks Mark

thermostat is nice & easy to replace with a screwdriver only

a new one is about £6, certainly a DIY job.

if there's a fault, and no fault code the dealers are so poorly trained these days they assume it's the ECU. there's zero fault finding ability these days.

They said that they plugged into their diagnostic computer and it said there was an electrical fault.

The car itself dirves without any other issue expect it doesnt get up to temp.

I'll give my friend a call tomorrow and see what he can do.

Thanks
