Hi,

hoping someone out there. :)

just got in the car, started up, flicked both window switches to fully up as habit,

my left hand window shot down, and wont go back up again. the motor definitely still works (just took panel off) but when it tries to go up i can hear what can describe as soft material flexing or something

i can lift the window up till the top is about 2 inches above the sill, so its not physically jammed, but i guess the cable is still attached to whatever is preventing it from moving upwards

any idea....???

it was the small wire that winds around the blue runner (er....roundy thing) has become completely mangled

does anyone know if this is a dealer job ?

You need a new window regulator. there are 2 white plastic clips that hold the cables to a clamp on the bottom of the glass.

These clips become brittle and snap. They are not sold as a seperate part because to replace them is very very tricky.

A new regulator from a seat dealer is about £100 but you can get a pattern part from a motor factor for about £70 that is just as good.

If you are handy with a socket set you can do the job yourself, that's what I did on my brothers MK4

Do a search as there are guides and pics to help you.

In the mean time pull the glass up and motor it up at the same time, then tape it in place with gaffa tape inside and outside.

If not, try and borrow a garage to park it in for a day or 2.

ah.. so what's actually happened is the reg has gone, which has caused the motor to go nuts with the cable and hasn't detected the end, which has mashed the wire on the pulley thing

cheers, the clips looked intact but i'll double check them.

i'd imagine would be a dealer job as the wire is damaged enough not to go round the pulley properly, plus re attaching it all to the pulley to keep it taught looks like it would be a nightmare (dealer as opposed to kwik fit...or sh*t-fit...etc...lol)

A new regulator comes complete, all you do is remove the broken regulator, swap over the motor (3 screws) and it locates into the drive cupling. then fit the new regulator Assembly. no messing with spooling the cables.

Do a search, it's easy, just nuts and bolts and a plaster for your knuckles.

thanks, which part of this is the reg ? is it on the windows-panel side or interior side ? (wots in the photo)

the wires have already come completely off of the blue pulley and one of the wires is completely mangled so would need 1 / 2 new one of those as well

This is exactly what happened to my car today .. as a habbit put my windows down and the right window just dropped down, i went into a dealer and they said it will come to about 150 quid. I cant manage to take off the metal plate its really hard any ideas how to do it? but managed to get the window up to about 2inches, but as said above their is wire around the motor is all tangled , would i have to wire it back up or isit the reg thats gone ?

firstly how do i take off the metal plate on the door ?

metal plate on door - ratchet set, and several bolts around the edge of the metal sheet plate. could advise a 90 degree metal handle as a screwdriver style ratchet handle might not give you enough leverage to undo the bolts.

can anyone advise where the regulator is in all that lot ?

The regulator is not visible in your above pic.

The regulator is the metal framework with the cables strung into it. it is the mechanism that cradles the glass and lifts and lowers it.

Pop out the large plastic bungs and loosen the bolts that clamp the glass to the regulator, remove the screws all around the outside of the metal plate and remove the plate. Then you can drill out or snap off the rivits that hold the regulator in place.

The new regulator uses nuts and bolts rather than rivits to hold it in place.

It's not hard at all.
