Electric Windows

Hi there
Has anyone had this problem with their drivers side front window, or if I am having a blonde moment! You know when you have got the window say half open and you want to shut it? Well you pull the switch upwards and it should shut automatically. Well mine does most of the time but sometimes it starts closing then goes the other way and fully opens all on its own!
The car is a year old 25th of next month, so still some warranty on it. I just wondered if there was a quick solution to this rather than wrestle with the stealer trying to prove it does this as like I said it is not all the time!
Cheers

Does it only happen at speed or when its really windy

If so then its the safety feature which stops you trapping fingers and stuff when its closing

I *think* you can recalibrate it by winding it all the way down, then winding it up by holding the switch, and keeping it held for a couple of seconds (until the motor stops trying) once the window is at the top.

hey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-o
correct me if i'm wrong.

when you press the button to automatically wind up, it winds up and immediately winds itself down half way or all the way down...................,LIKE THIS :roflmao:

i havent had any expert diagnostics but i can tell you this...,

in the past i have had the same problem on my mark3 golf gti 1997 model after receiving a jump start off someone, it also happened to my 2002 audi a2 after cranking up my heavy subwoofer sound system for an hour playing 2pac and Dr dre in slow moving traffic (in both cars).

it also happens when i cane the the lights out of both cars......, park it for a few minutes and start the engine again.

CAN ANYONE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS

Take it back to the stealers. It might be exessive power causing some of you electrics on your window to go "LOCO"
Also keep an eye on dashboard digits to see if they are screwed up when this happens

My passenger side window does this. I think the seal is a bit tight or something cos the window slows down as its shutting - like there is increased resistance - and then the safety mechanism cuts in and opens it all the way.

Sorry, no idea how to fix it!

My drivers side window does this. I agree with BlackCupraa, I think it is the safety feature. If you happen to be driving over a pothole or bumpy road when the window is closing, the pressure sensors detect any sudden bump or jolt as something trapped in the window obstructing the closure and therefore the computer opens the window fully.

I will try resetting it like Feel posted and see what happens.
I know when it has wound itself down on its own, to get it to shut again you have to keep the switch pulled upwards until it is shut. The automatic wind up with the button briefly pulled upwards doesnt work. It only shuts it as long as you have got your finger pulling upwards on the button. (If that makes sense)

My window wouldn't close automatically when my car came back from the garage as well but I head something about opening my window all the way with my finger held on the button for about 5 or more seconds when it was fully open and then close if fully holding my finger on the button again when its fully closed for 5 seconds or more as well. That worked for me.

But my window does this too in the back doors :roflmao:
mine does it when i'm still as well as when i'm driving, but only sometimes, not all the time, I tried that button thing i did for the front and thats not always worked, I was closing 2 windows at once when it happens with me though. Might be coincidence with the 2 windows at once as I do that a lot.

good job on answering his q but considering his last activity on here was 14-06-2008, and he only made 30 posts since august 04, it may be slightly wasted :D
