Electric Window goes bump

There's something wrong with my drivers door electric window, it makes a strange noise just before it goes all the way down. When there's only about an inch of window left to disappear there is a slightly scraping clunk, it sounds as if the bottom of the window is coming down and grinding on the edge of piece of metal, but the pressure of the window going down is enough to move the obstruction and it continues to go down without any further noise or protest.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing the obstruction? Has anyone seen any pictures or guides to removing the drivers side door panel on a Leon Mk1? Someone must have done it, how easy is it? I have searched a bit but only found links to vwvortex guide to removing a Jetta door panel which probably is very similar.

Any help appreciated,

I had that, it was the window regulator and it had to be replaced.

Be careful putting the window up and down until you've had it checked over though as the can drop down into the door and refuse to go back up again.

I had a scratching noise from the drivers side & found that there was small stone chip lodged in there. Removed it with my key & all is dandy now :D

Thanks all,

I'll check for a loose stone but I think it's unlikely - but simple enough and worth checking.

Might have a go at removing the panel, but I can see myself taking to the stealers to get fixed - I get a bit nervous when there more than 5 or 6 pieces to put back together.

yeah the window motor should be covered by warranty , providing it is actually gone

my drivers window just rattles like when driving with window down and makes a horrible crunch at the point of fully closing.

car is in for warranty work today and 40k service so asked them to take a look at it. no doubt they won't find anything. they never do. although i have a sneaky suspicion that they will start finding things after august when the warranty is finished

My windows have these problems too :(

The passenger side one rattles if part of the way down.
The drivers side on makes a clunk sound when it gets to around 75% of the way down.

Might ask JKM to have a look at it for me when they do my 40k service. Or I'll take it to Seat if it gets worse.

that guide makes it look 10 times harder than it actually is , i looked at it and thought oh my god *** got no chance , but when the door card is of and the 9 bolts are undone its really quite easy , make sure u take the glass out as well .

Oops

Well I never did get around to taking the panel off.

So I was away for the weekend:D and guess what, something went snap:cry: pressing the button just makes strange whirring and clunking noises:-o, window no longer responds. Luckily the window was still partially up, so I've managed to pull it up and close the window.

Off to the dealer tomorrow for fixing. :(

Any idea what these repair kits are ?

Some little **** smashed my side window and made off with my screen last week

I've had a new glass fitted, but they said to go easy on it cos the rear guide/clip/bracket had broken - apparently a common problem.

Is the clip available seperately ? It's not on ETKA

Just a quick update...

After a bit of shopping around (thanks to Dad too) I ended up buying the part from the dealer (needed chassis number) and getting it fitted by a local auto-electric garage. I was a little unsure about the parts and if I had everything needed.

But it all worked out fine, it's working perfect now and all done for about £75 - roughly half what the stealer wanted.

guys take serious note

when my passenger side window broke, it went down and would not come up. The cable had frayed and snapped on the window regulator

SO

I purchased the window regulator from Seat £65, and took off the inner door panel and fitted the regulator, fine the window is now fixed, BUT

I could not get the inner door panel back on. Two bolts on the bottom of the regulator I could not get to reattach to the door as the bolts were not long enough to taper to the door, although was fine on the original one, therefore leaving it with a possible water leak. This also has to be properly resealed as well so no leaks can occur

secondly when fitting the inner door panel, the plastic bit which pops up and down to show the door is locked and unlocked would not move up and down correctly, as it was jammed against the inner door panel. Its a complete $hit to get this to sit right and is really fiddly

this job is not as simple as it seems, and there is quite a process to all of this (this is made to look simple in the guide but far far from it)

also when fitting the new regulator make sure the motor is properly reattached, as I made this mistake and it kept on winding when up and when wound down as due to the cogs on the motor not being secured correctly, it kept slipping and carrying on

before you take off the inner door panel, you have to do something to the door lock as it is pre tensioned, as when you take off the door panel and dont release the pre tension on the door lock, when you try to re fit the inner panel the door mechanism will not work properly when trying to open the door from the inside or outside (something to do with the cable that attaches to the door handle and door lock)

i know this at a cost....Seat in the end had to refit the whole door panel and window £199

and because I did not know the required process for the lock, this is also now having to be sorted out - £250!!

also if your window is rattling about when open, then the inner door panel will need to be taken off and check the rubber mounts that the glass sits in are tight and secure. this is easy to do as there are two holes on the window regulator, and you wind it down to the correct height where you can see a torque screw through each hole, adjust these reasonably tight and this should stop the glass from moving about

take note though of what I have previously said, taking off and re fitting the inner door panel can be very tricky - I strongly advise you only do this if you are confident with taking your car apart
