Hi All,
At the weekend my electric tailgate stopped working, when trying to open or close the boot it would at best move a small amount and then stop and make several beeps. The only way to open or close the boot was to manually force it. My first port of call for research into the issue was here, but as I was unable to find any mention off the issue I thought I'd share my findings now that I have resolved the issue in case it can help someone else in the future.
A VAGCOM scan of module "6D: Trunk Elect." gave the following fault code:
0027 - Hall Sensors in Motor 2 for Rear Lid
B120A 15 [008] - Open or Short to Plus
Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Pulling back the rubber cover from the top of the strut on the drivers side I found a damaged wire:
Easily fixed by exposing a bit more wire, soldering together and covering with heat-shrink tubing (remember to put the tubing on and slide up out of the way before soldering!). This is all a bit easier if you remove the boot lid end of the strut from the boot lid and let the strut hang down. The other strut is not strong enough to hold the boot lid up on its own so have something ready to prop it open, I used the parcel shelf.
Re-fit the rubber cover, and the far end of the strut, clear the fault code and its all good again
