Electric Mirrors Question

Hi all,

I wonder if any of you Tolly owners could please answer a question for me or maybe try this on your motors ?

When I flick the electric mirror switch to the left and adjust, the passenger side mirror glass moves as I would expect, but when I flick the switch to the right and adjust, both mirror glasses move ??

This doesn't sound right to me, and a quick look in the manual reveals that they should operate independantly left and right !!

Anyone else seen this or found a cure for it ?

I initally thought it was some some clever way that the driver could tilt both mirrors quickly when parking or something, but not so sure now ?

Incidently, while playing with this, I noticed the folding mirror position on the switch, I have only had the car 3 years and have never noticed this before.
Both mirrors folds fine which is really cool !!

I'm sure it was something to do with reverse and the mirror would change angle when you selected it but for the life of me can i remember the procedure but don't worry though there are many more anorak's in here to check with

in the meantime i would do the drivers side (both) first then the passengers

That is exactly what I have to do..

Hopefully other tolly owners (or maybe even Leon Mk1) will be able to tell me what their cars do..

I was really impressed with discovering I had folding mirrors though, I really should of read the manual 3 years ago when I got the car.. Doh !!

That behaviour is actually as the book says. Its to assist with easy adjustment for new drivers. You first do the left hand mirror and point that in the same direction as the right, then you do the right to get them pointing in the direction you want. The idea being that if a new driver gets in, they turn the knob to the right and adjust both mirrors to suit themselves instead of having to do them individually.

It does seem odd at first but it does make sense when you read it out of the manual.

The reverse gear thing is something different. The idea behind that is if you select reverse, the passenger mirror tilts downwards to show you the kerb, and make parallel parking easier. However, I've not managed to get this set up in mine which I actually think is a good thing! I don't want to be looking at the kerb, I want to see the pedestrian I'm about to run over!

On my V5, the mirrors are configured along with the electric seats, so when you press one of the memory buttons, everything sets itself up in the right place. It doesn't actually work for me, I think its because they've not been set up properly. But as I'm the only one drivin it (my other half is terrified of it!) it doesn't bothey me.

On the point of wing mirrors and having them folding, I noticed on a workmates 09 Leon FR the wing mirrors are absolutely monstrous!! It almost looks like if his wing mirrors didn't fold up, he'd be taking up three parking bays!

This is normal behaviour. It allows you to quickly switch between positions if more than one person drives the car - adjusting the drivers side should move the passenger side to be roughly compatible.

Adjsut the drivers side first then fine-tune the passenger side if necessary.

The parking adjustment, not on all cars, tilts the passenger side mirror down when reverse gear is selected, so you can watch the kerb.

Slimey, so do both of the mirrors operate when the switch is to the right on your V5 Tolley ?

I thought the manual says they operate independantly, switch left for left mirror, switch right for right mirror..

I do follow the logic about new drivers etc being able to adjust both at the same time though.

I can see i need to read the manual again !!

Are there any other Tolly owners out there who can confirm what their cars actually do ?

As above, switch left does left mirror only, switch right does both left and right mirrors.
With the left mirror set for reverse parking, keeping the switch in the right position enables that mirror to dip (saved a few scrapes on my alloys along the way - very handy)
If you don't want the left mirror to dip when reversing, keep the switch in the left or neutral position.

Ah, that'll be why mine doesn't work, I've got the switch sat in the neutral position! I'll try the right switch next time I'm parking...
