Did a search or 2, but can't seem to find anyone else with this issue...

Just had a EGR removal and uprated pipework put in on my Fabia VRS and the car is now giving a nasty vibration when the ignition is turned off - its like a stall, but less severe. I've had a look with the bonnet up, and the engine is flexing on its mounts to a pretty harsh extent before cutting off. anyone got any idea on this one? thinking of cleaning up my old EGR and sticking it back on in the interim...

I've also got a fault code, which was expected - inlet manifold flap - no signal. not too worried about that though.

Hi mate, Mark here - we met at Allards the other day.
Do a search for anti judder valve, part of the EGR valve has a flap in it that stops the engine juddering as it stops when you switch off the ignition & this has been removed hence the judder.

As delaxm said the anti shudder valve is part of the EGR system that you have just removed. You are the first person to notice it not working though as the modern PD engine doesn`t really need it.
What you two doing at Allards anyway ? Hope your car is still going well delaxm.

No mate, turbo is dead - check out the thread in the TDI tuning section entitled turbo oil seal?
I'm waiting for a call hopefully about the replacement - might have to trailer the car to Allards to get it fitted though.

Sorry to here about that mate, hope it all gets sorted soon. I know Lloyd is working 24/7 to try and catch up with all the back orders and jobs as they had a slight water problem up their way. To much then none at all plus loss of eletric sort of screwed things up a bit.:(

I can't say the extra little shuddering on shutdown is really an issue for me. But it is the (lack of) anti-shudder valve which causes the extra vibration. I much prefer having that slight irritant (if it even is one for me) than have the EGR in place, doing it's stinky, cloggy, grubby recirculating thing.

thats put my mind at rest a bit. so long as its not doing any harm i can ignore it. was amazed at the amount of crap in the EGR when it came off - filthy.

have you gus ever looked at the engine when shut off though - it doesn't half flex on its mounts. not sure that in itself is healthy. in for the turbo around november all being well; need the dampers sorted first as my ride quality is shocking, and i can't see it improving with extra beans...

Have you ever seen the engine move on full throttle? ;) (please don't say you have :D) - The only time you can really see this is on a rolling road and I was shocked by the amount mine moved when put under load. I reckon the shaking of it shutting down pales into insignificance to the movement when being put under load. :)

Thanks for the feedback. Shudder seems to be getting less severe now, sure i'm not making it up! Anyway, only the dampers to go before the turbo, so i'm getting there, slowly....

How are you guys finding your turbo's? any common issues i should be aware of before going ahead? was thinking of asking for a custom map limiting power to about 210bhp, but from what i've read it wouldn't be far off from that anyway. Thinking about how long the setup needs to last as i do over 25K per year.

From my experience, not to clever - less than 6000 miles & although I don't pootle around like an old granny it has never been driven hard until warm or held at maximum boost for more than a few seconds, in fact I rarely go over a ton as the ariel makes an awful noise like it is coming through the roof!
I've had one call from Allards & I had to chase them to get that, I know the area had flooding problems (thats why I couldn't get the car to them sooner)
but it does seem a simple warrenty turbo fitting (I removed the old one myself)
is going to be weeks rather than days.

Sorry to hijack as well but ......:p

I don't know much about the Allards EGR replacement valve , but is it easy to fit? Or something best left to the experts?
I really want to fit a boost guage and its seems worth the 50quid from some of the things i've read about the standard set up.

see the allard site for the kits, looked fairly easy to sort, getting the blanking plate onto the exhaust gas pipe looked the fiddly bit. Any mechanic would be able to do it.

I now have a vibra technics dogbone mount on the way. From the reports of others who've already fitted it, it literally holds the engine rock solid - which feeds vibrations through to the cabin - but apparently these die down as the bush/es bed in. Should help with acceleration, or at least gearchanges whilst accelerating hard.

On topic: I had my EGR hose off a little while back - Only a tiny dribble of oil inside the hose. Was uber clean. :D
