eek!! no fans

hi there, went to a car boot the other day and there was a free air con check.
i have a leon mk 1 1.9tdi 150
to cut a long story short we discovered that niether of my fans are working at any point ( engine hot or cold!) and they don't kick in with aircon either!

what do i do?

hardwire them in so the run all the time on hardwire them in with a switch so you can choose when to have them on would be the cheapest option

i noticed this with my previous problem but thought nothing of it, but when it came back from garage they worked

looks like oil is on them but i am not what they have done
