Time to try & sort out my wonky 16v - idle is oddly random & fuel economy isn't to clever. Seems fine at full chat. Stealer said diagnostics list a fault with the inlet manifold pressure sensor - which I believe is built into the ECU on the 16v. :censored:
Rather than buy a new ECU ££££! I was wondering if anyone has had an ECU fixed? Have seen www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk and wonder if this is worth a shot.

it'll be fine if you just swap the ECU i understand.

the mk2 has a crude immo system compared to the later cars

Evening all i have owned my 1999 Seat Ibiza Cupra GTI 2.0 8 Valve for 4 months with no issues untill now, Whoever had the car before me has put a Daskek Piggyback Computer Unichip on it runing from the ECU, on sunday evening a cloud of smoke came from behind the dash & to cut a long story short it got towed to the garage and checked Monday, The Garage informed me the Unichip had blown and burt out & with it been connected to the ECU has also damaged it causing 12 faults on the ECU, the garage have sent the ECU off for checking to see if it can be repaired and the cost is alresdy at £100 with a further £200- £300 ECU repair quoted, what i wont to know is do the 1999 ECU have immobilsers on them & could i just buy a ECU from e-bay for example for £50 and just connect it up?? as i dont fancy the repair bill, cheers...

I'd fully agree with the above

We sent him an ecu for a customers car and even when he couldn't fault it he sent us a cloned unit to try which cured the fault.

We'll worth talking to if you decide to go that route
