Hey everyone, as requested by poverty, ive got some pics up of my DVD head unit with iPod video playback in my mk4 beeza up on photobucket (atm, there just crappy camera phone pics but hopefully ill add better pics later )
If anyone wants one just take a look on ebay, there loadsa the DVD players, usually from hong kong sellers, avalible for around £150.... BARGAIN!
words of warning though: Fitting is a nightmare! it comes with the japanese standard fittings i believe, however i managed to fit mine using sticky together 2 single DIN cages, its very messy round the back, and getting all the cables behind the unit is a NIGHTMARE, looking back i wish i had payed someone to fit it properly, but if anyone could do it of not is another story.
You'll also need some adapters etc to fit the cables to those in the beeza, just some simple crimping here and there and stuff to connect the radio ariel, nothing too major. The upmost thing i looked for when choosing my unit was (as silly as it sounds) red backlit buttons, sounds stupid but it makes the unit look alot more inetrated to the car, but shop around depending on what your after.
Another thing before you fit the Unit is buy a iPod video cable, mine is just a normal belkin one which is pluged into the AV lead on the back of the DVD Player and comes out through the holes under the heater controls near the gear stick, however, some of you guys might find it helpful getting one of these instead if you no how to hardwire the charger, so itll play your ipod videos and charge at the same time .
The setup i have works perfectly, but there are some things i wish i had have concidered, if you run the ipod with just music you will get an ugly black screen showing 'AV1 No Video' in the red letters, although to sovle this, you can knock the screen off on my unit or you can make a SEAT themed picture for on ur ipod and run a slideshow with music playing so it looks like a flashy offical SEAT dvd player, ive posted the pictures i put on my ipod on photobucket if anyone wants to use them .
Please remember tho..... you get what you pay for, these units aren't alpine headunits were talking about..... the image quality isnt amazing, but tbh i aint after the highest quality HD screen of the inside of my car just to watch the odd music video, the colour isnt great on it (fiddle around with the settings to get the most from it though) and the picture aint the sharpest, but if your like me and you just want to let your mates watch some scrubs on a long journey then it'll do fine .
Anyway ive dragged this article on a bit but i just wanted to give people a in depth look at what you can have Hope some people have done something similar, loved to hear any ideas and see some pics of what you guys have done, ill be hapy to answer anything if i can, please note im not expert on these things.
