Naughty North!
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if my 51 plate leon tdi 110 has got one fitted. Its the non PD engine. I seem to have a bit of a judder at idle and wondered if it was the starting of the flywheel breaking down.
Thanks in advance.

Not cheap, are they! Mines got 103k on at mo. Clutch is good, no problems. Its just the slight niggling in my head it could fail. But then again, could be ok for a few more thousand miles!

To me it makes sense to replace the dmf while repalcing the clutch.
For another £200 plus vat is it worth it?
Also if you look on this forum there are stories of dmf failure/replacement at mileage of less than mine.

I had the clutch and flywheel replaced on mine this week after only 16,000 miles! Fortunately it was under warranty.

Because if you replace the DMF with a SMF you get a rattle when in neutral with your foot off the clutch which can get really bloody annoying after a while plus it makes a diesel sound even more ruff then it already is.

Since your TDI is putting out over 400 pounds of torque, your clutch/flywheel needs are greater than for most TDI owners.

Yes, a SMF is a bit noisier. But for a reasonable price you get a clutch that can handle up to 300 pounds of torque. The kits are about $400 here in North America, you can probably get one for £200-250 that will last 100k miles or maybe a lot longer. A stock DMF won't last nearly so long.

Do you feel any difference when using the clutch with a SMF over the DMF? And how noisey are they?

The "feel" is great; it just feels stronger. The noise at idle in neutral is noticable, but not extremely loud. You get used to it.

Edit: this is the Valeo kit I am using:

Note: some people recommend replacing the clutch release lever at the same time. The stock clutch release lever might cause the clutch to engage closer to the floor than some people like. There is a photo over at tdiclub showing the different CRL's, which I can't link to. Just join tdiclub and search for "clutch release lever" to see what I mean.

if you want to search a forum without joining it try doin a google search and add: site:www.forumaddress.com at the end

eg. to do a search for dual mass flywheels on this forum you would type the following into google: - "dual mass flywheels site:www.seatcupra.net" (without the quotation marks) Its a handy lil tip if u just wanna know a scraps of information here and there without joinin 20 odd forums...

obviously if u find a forum to be consistently useful (like this one) sign up n put a little bit back :D
hope this helps
