DSG - downhill assist, she's a screamer!

Anyone else have the same problem with the DSG and downhill assist? I live in a pretty hilly area and even on fairly gentle slopes it seems to end up in 3rd gear and 5000 revs most times, which feels really excessive and I end up pulling the up paddle to change back up.

The first time it did it I thought the engine was going to burst, who the hell designs a system to do that to a brand new engine?

Is there any other option than putting it in manual before approaching a descent?

As long as the engine is warmed up, nothing wrong with 5000rpm. It's not using any fuel, and if you change up to 4th you probably wouldn't have much engine braking at all.
(Edit: if the engine is still within it's break in period, then yeah that's probably not a good idea)

Use the manual gear change paddles to select the gear you want. If I do that with my DSG it stays in the selected gear for the rest of the descent.

That's interesting because mine sometimes stays in the gear selected but other times it goes back to screaming after ten seconds, I wonder what the other variable is?

It's just another aspect of a system that is supposed to emulate a torque converter, but seems a lot more intrusive due to the weird programming choices made.

Same thing happens in my 1.5 DSG formentor. The engine revs really high going downhill, making me think there is a fault! Is this really how it should be set up? Doesn’t make for a smooth ride. I don’t want to manually have to change. That’s why I bought an automatic! Too noisy!
