I have got an altea 2.0tdi dsg sport with the 17's and although it isnt snowing yet, i guess it may do over the next few months if we are lucky.

Does anyone have any experience of driving the DSG in the snow. As far as i am aware you cant drive off in second?

The best you could do i suppose is let it creap in first and take it from there?

Biggest problem will be the tyres - wide, flat and the wrong tread for snow - as for most UK cars, which is one of the reasons we grind to a halt in a few mm of snow. The car will be fine - as good as any other FWD car and the DSG and TC makes it fairly straightforward if you are gentle. Can be times that switching off TC can help, but basically curl up with another beer or buy some snow tires on cheap steel wheels and fit the from Nov 1 to March 1 like a lot of Europe.

My very limited experience in the ice and snow is exactly as Robin says. The tyres are way too wide to be good in the snow and you have to be very very gentle with the throttle. Personally I am dreading having to drive it in the ice and snow again. Love it to bits all the rest of the time though!

Well I had experience in Luxembourg last year and it was fine but the traction control was cutting in to stop me sliding which wasn't bad as I breaked at a red light. So just a short bit of experince, I don't like snow much the same it's when you do loose control at slow speeds coming down hills, hit the curb and do the tracking in.
