Driveshaft Size

Been told by the mechanic who is fitting my new clutch that I need to find out the driveshaft size...

He told me to take my wheel off and it's the big nut in the centre of the disc. Can't be bothered to do that, so thought I'd ask on here first! Surely someone will know?

The car is a 99 T Cupra 16v btw

Thanks in advance

why would you need to do that?

you need to undo the ones with the 10mm spline drive at the output of the gearbox - not the hub end.

Hmm... I'll give him that info, thanks.

I'm really mechanically ignorant btw, proper useless. So personally I don't know why he wants to know this and why, perhaps it's me that's asked the wrong question but thanks anyways!

when the guy did my clutch he took the driveshaft from the passenger side out... maybe thats what he wants it for... could be wrong but theres still no reason to need the driveshaft diameter. if hes a 'part time' mechanic he might have just wanted to know if he had the right sized socket for the nut.

as mork says tho he will need a 10mm spline piece to undo all the bolts holding the driveshafts to the gearbox

Yeah, I've just spoken to him and he was just checkin what size sockets he needed to 'borrow' from his work. He's a full time mechanic but he's doing my clutch as a favour at his house for me.

Thanks peoples
