Double Din help - gear gator and ash try

Hi all I’ve just bought a double din conversion but my LCR gear gator won’t fit (not got it yet but I know they are too big).
My questions are:

- what gear gator do I need - names or part numbers? (Don’t want to cut as I want to swap it over if/when I find a yellow LCR).

- the ash try lid the rubber coating is coming off, does anyone have a part number for a new one? I believe it’s the same as some golfs?

- also what’s the part number for the black double din surround as this one is grey?

Cheers all

The double din lower centre console specific gearstick is very difficult to source as the plastic inner ring differs.
I've had them in the past are usually knackered unfortunately.
With my own car I opted to modify the lower console to accept the larger R / FR type gaiter base with the surround plastic trim.

The sliding ashtray lid is the same one used on the VW mk4 Golf & Bora and as you've found out has that abysmal sticky rubberised coating.
I completely removed the coating on mine using nail varnish remover and a washing up sponge which bought it up like new.

Black centre console facia trim is available here but I always buy them from TPS as it's cheaper and quicker.
The part number is on the listing for reference.

Hi mate that makes more sense to modify in that case, I’ve got cut it to accept the centre arm rest. Do you have any photos or advice on how to cut? Shame there isn’t a part number guide online as there must have been a part number I could keep an eye out on eBay?

Ah that sounds better, does it still match colour wise? Any images?

STOP DON'T CUT ANYTHING!

I might be able to help you out with an exchange that works for both of us.

Out of curiosity did you buy this off a guy on Facebook yesterday?

Haven’t got the part yet so won’t be cutting.

Yes from Facebook, he was based up in Scotland. The advert has now gone so can’t tag it.

Yep, so it was you that literally just beat me to it! Haha

I was going to buy the lot just for the lower console.

Haha sorry that’s me, hopefully it’s as described and turns up!

What was your idea to benefit us both?

Well I'm after an uncut console as I have no intention on running an armrest plus I also have the correct gaitor base that I was hoping to utilise.

My console has the factory armrest cut out (albeit currently blanked from beneath) and I've already modified the gaitor opening to accept the larger gaiter base.
Obviously these are both jobs that you plan to do with your one.

Where you based mate? If they are in similar condition I’m sure we could swap it over, as long as I need to cut the gator. I’m in Hertfordshire.

Hi, I know this is a bit of an old post but here is a photo of a double din in front of a single din fascia (for reference if anyone is interested). Note The radio has been replaced with Gauges in mine :)
