Hi All,

Been reading all I could on posts here and found some great information, thanks to all the posters. However I am still a bit stuck with exactly what I need to get to install my new double din HU.
I am installing a JVC kw-xr811.
I got the facia plate replacement from David in Seremotors (thanks for the contact info).
I have the original cage plus frame that comes with the JVC unit:
With all this, how to I install/secure the cage in the dash? I cannot attach the cage to the facia, it is not meant to support the stereo anyway.
Do I need another adaptor?
Prior to this I had purchased an aftermarket installation kit from connects2 but the facia colour didn't match exactly so returned it and got the matching Seat Part.

I am a bit/very confused now and could do with some help.

Thanks in advance.

The cage from your JVC should slide into the fascia, then you bend back the tab to secure it in place. Once the fascia is fitted to the dash, the JVC slides in and locks in place.

I did a quick search on your stereo to see if the cage that comes with it is any different from the standard, but did not fins any pictures. I only found that it listed as a "OEM-style double DIN head unit" perhaps it's a bit different from normal.

Any chance you could take a few photos and post, it see if we can help you out with what you got!

Hey Numpty,

The cage indeed slides into the facia. Problem is how/where do I secure the cage into?
First, I don't think I am supposed to attach the cage to the facia. Someone can just pop out the facia and run away with the stereo.
Second, even if I wanted to, the facia has quite a wide frame inside that covers the tabs, see picture, only the bottom tabs can be used:

There are no tabs on the sides either:

I suppose I could screw the cage from the inside into the facia frame, but then again, nothing is secured in place, just attached to the facia.
Looking at the opened dash, there are 4 holes where you can bolt a "cage adaptor" I assume:

Something that could look like:

Although the above is not the part I need I believe.

Hope the pictures help. Thanks a lot for the help.

See the little "shark fin" type things, those are the cut outs!

A little screwdriver to lift them up, and some long nose pliers to bend them over. They sort of jam the cage to the fascia.

The problem I see is you only appear to have them on one side (the bottom of the cage), nomally their on all sides.

I have them at the top and bottom but the top ones are covered by the facia.
What about those 4 holes in the dash, is there anything that attaches to them?

Don't know what to suggest about tabs at the top.

Normally, with your set-up the cage attaches to the facia, then fascia to dash, and stereo slides in and locks in place (you should have some keys if you need to remove it again).

I'm not sugesting you do this, but the only thing I can think of is cutting back the top of the fascia so you can use the tabs at the top as well. The bottom and top should be enough to lock the cage to the fascia.

Perhaps another member will come in with a better suggestion? :help:

So went to the Seat dealer this evening. There is no other adaptor for the cage. The holes in the dash are for the SatNav unit. The Facia will also allow the installation of a single din unit, Seat sells the pocket compartment to close the bottom space.
So basically I conclude that I have to connect my cage to the facia directly. I can bend the pins underneath and drill through with a self taping screw at the top.
If anyone has a better solution, I am all ears :)
Thanks for the read.

Ok, finished the installation.
I drilled through the facia and screwed top and bottom. The JVC cage gave enough clearance for the screw head.:

The facia locks into the dash thanks to the clips sold with it. You have to push really hard to get it into place, so it's not going to pop out any time soon and can take the weight of the double din very easily:

Note, was not able to get the top left corner perfectly flush, will go back to it later if bothered too much, probably need to start with that corner first.
Picture of the microphone I routed beside the steering wheel:

Installation finished with frame in:

I also routed the usb cable to the bottom of the central console, used an extension to extend it to the center glove box, so my hard drive sits neatly in the center console inside the first compartment.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

you really need to connect to a switched live from the fuse box or get a connects 2 canbus set of adapter leads as that should do it for you

as there maybe a chance you will run the battery down if you leave it switched on for a length of time , i could be wrong on that i am sure some one can clarify
