HI guys

Ive got a Mk4 Ibiza TDi FR and need to get into the inner skin of the doors. Now Ive managed to take off the door cards, which revealed a big metal panel with all the window mechanish etc etc on. How do I remove this to I can access the inner and outer skins? Just wanna add dynamat to it ya see...

Ran a search already but it didnt come up with anyone im afraid.

Is there a guide to do this? With pics perhaps?

thanks

Add the dynamat to the outside of the metal plate. I'm pretty sure Muddyboots did a guide on it somewhere at one point.

Thats pretty easy in itself, but to do a proper job i also wanna apply it to the inside of it aswell.

Infact itll be something called Sludge that im going to paint onto it, which does the same as dynamat but its easier to use, just paint it on. simple.

The inner section also needs to be done to get the best of the components.

As I see it, and I removed my door card a few days ago but it was to get to the wing mirror, that metal plate is just held there by some screws so I'd guess just take those out and disconnect any cables, I agree that adding dynamat to the interior of the door would be better also, are you thinking about changing the speakers? because I haven't noticed any rattling from my doors with the standard speakers.
Good luck!

Im afraid its not as simple as that - as it holds the window mechanism to the metal panel. There are other bolts to undo aswell, but they have to be done in order to release the glass or it wont come off or get damaged.

Someone with more tech experienve of taking this panel off with hopefully pics/diagrams will be of great help. Once I know how to do it, im planning on taking loads of pics and posting up a good write up so if anyone else wants to do the same they can without problems.

Yes im replacing the standard speakers with Boston 6.5Pro components which will be fed with about 200rms per channel, so Im likely to hear a few more rattles than with the standard setup lol

those 2 black circles pop out to allow access to the bolts holding the glass in if you lower it down to line em up

lift it up and tape it up to secure it out the way

undo the door catch bolts on the outside (left)

take door handle out (bolt above door catch)

undo all the bolts around the panel

pull out / forwards / then out towards you and swing in towards the car

should give you enough room to get mat/paint inside is as loom is long enough to hold the now loose panel in the kickwell

been a while since ive done one but with the right torx bits etc shouldnt take 5 mins more than taking the panel off just dont let the glass drop or you'll have more than speaker rattle to worry about ;)

the old policy with dynamat was as much cover as possible and in as large a piece as possible - http://muddyboots.fotopic.net/p10261627.html (like this) but i'd do the outer skin as well if it was me
