Door sensor

Hello everybody,

I'm quite new on this forum. I have a seat ibiza sport 1.4 (74kw) made in 2005 (mk4).
I have the problem that when I open my right door, my interior light doesn't switch on :(. Also when I open the right door after unlocking with the remote, the car will lock itself after a while. So the car doesn't get a signal that the door is opened. Now I was trying to find the sensor in the door that is responsible for giving the signal that the door is open, but I can't find it anywhere. In my other cars it was just a mechanical switch that you could cheat pushing it with your fingers.

Does anybody know where the sensor/switch in this car is? Maybe with a picture?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Jan

i think it is a switch and both those functions are triggered by it...someone will no doubt come in and tell you exactly where it is, but i know it is visible

^^^^^as said, it's in the door lock but can be temporary fixed with a squirt of WD40, this involves removing the door card etc.

If you want to replace the switch it can be done if you are careful and have steady hands for small fiddly parts

Hi I just replied to a similar thread but this sounds the same sort of problem. The switch in my drivers side door lock stopped working and the autolocks would kick in if the door was open and the keys out of the ignition. Also the lights on buzzer stopped working. I could be hoovering out the car with the door open and the doors would 'lock' and the alarm would go off as it detected me inside. On one occasion I put the keys in the ignition so I could keep the door open and then closed the door without thinking and the doors immediately locked! Luckily it was on my driveway so I could go and get the spare key.

Sorry for the rambling - in the end I had to get a new door lock fitted - about £150 at a stealers.
Cheers

Thank you very much for your replies! I had this feeling that this switch was inside the door lock, so I have to take off the inside of the door to get there? Ric 2001, can you tell me where you can buy this switch?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,
Jan

Ps: Looking at the replies, I'm not the only one with this problem.., maybe a poor quality switch that Seat uses...
