Door lock problems

In desperate need of some help on this issue.

Problem all started a couple of days ago when one of the wee plastic brackets which are part of the passenger electric window broke and :censored: up the whole mechanism. So took the outer and inner door covers of as well as the door handle and lock mechanism. Then put in my new parts and the electric window was working again smooth as silk.

This is when the real problem occured. I put the door lock and handle back in and it all fitted nice and snug. But now the door has decided to deadlock itself and wont open. Have tried a number of suggestions from other sources including disconnecting and reconnecting the battery but nothing seems to work. Has nearly come down to it now that i mite have to drill out the door lock and buy a new one but id prefer not to.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can get this door open?

When you pull the interior door catch does it a) feel like it's connected to any thing? Or b) does it feel slack compared to the working door?

If b) it could be that a small "clip" that sits on the cable and catch mechanisim for the interia door handle has dislodged. I think it provides the tension on the cable sleeve to enable the cable to pull the mechanisim at the lock end. If this is dislodged I found you cannot open the door from the inside or outside. I know someone whos had a similar experiance before.

When helping them out I was lucky enough to be able to pull the door card away enough from the top to reach in and reclip this and open the door. Its a delicate operation, but I always check that the door handle feels "connected" before shutting the door now.

i think what you have done is put the outer door handle cable in to tight the only way in is to try and get the door card off from the inside you may have to snap the clips:cry: take window out remove metal cove off and get you hand up a lever the door lock to get it open

^^^^ I THINK TYRONE IS CORRECT ^^^^ with the cable block is in wrong position in the exterior handle!if the interior handle and exteior handle dont work this is what is caused by the cable clip in wrong postion. you will know if the cable is clicked in the handle or not as if you pull the handle in the open position you can just see the cable block in the handle this will eliminate that situation

but if it is what i think it is i know a way you can open this door without snapping door clips or scratching door cards OR DRILLING THE LOCK OUT!!!!

you need to do this exactly!

1.hold key remote in 1 hand
2.using other hand you need to FIRMLY PUSH/LEAN on the moving part of handle where the cable clicks too (this moves the door skin inwards causing the cable to release enough for you to do step three
3.when still PUSHING/LEANING press unlock on the remote a twice this will allowthe door to be opened the remove the handle and re position the cable again

I CAN MAKE SOME PICS FOR YOU OF YOU WISH!

finally got it solved. did a bit of searching on the internet and found this site.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1542461

read through it and found out that "It has been speculated for a while now by myself and a few others that the problems with the door lock module was a sticky microswitch - this would explain the sometimes intermittent nature of the problems and also would explain why a good, hard whack to the edge of the door near the lock module would temporarily solve them"

Thats exactly what i did and of course the door popped open first try. Although the door was opening and closing it still wasnt working as smooth as it shud so i took the door lock apart checked over it all and gave it a good blast with sum wd 40! Now back to proper working order! Thank god for that!

Thanks for the help anyway fellas.

Oh and good luck with the wife hunt rich!

glad you got it sorted matey!

imo wd40 was totally the wrong choice in lube as it actually draws the oil out and drips off eveporates ect and then the lock wont be lubricated at all should of realy used white grese ;) glad to hear youi got it sorted tho mate!

i thought in yoiur origional post you said you couldnt open the door so i thought it was trapped shut or do you mean you smaked the door on the outside/door skin and it solved the problem??

nathwarr: yea i was glad to see that mine were sweet so i didnt havta re-solder them.

rash: yea u wer right. The door was jammed shut. Lucky for me i hadnt already put the plastic door card back on so put a block of wood against the inside where the door lock wud be and welted it with a mallet. Jst popped open.

Cant say i knew that bout the wd40 but il not for next time. Sure thats what the site is for. :p

over a computer it is all well me telling you what to change but if i were you id take it to the stealers and ask them to diagnose the problem but it does sound like it will need a new " door catch"
