Door knock on acceleration and braking - help

Car: Seat Leon TDI SE (2001)
Problem: knock in door on acceleration and braking.

Has anyone had a knock from the drivers door when accelerating hard or with a quick brake? I have a knock when there is a change in momentum in the car.

It has been doing my head in, I thought it was a bottle under my seat at first, however through trouble shooting, realise that when I drive (safely) with the door open and brake quickly there is no sound...

I have narrowed it down to the door lock and the catch (I guess) Anyone had problems such as this, how can i resolve it? I will need to take to the garage for the repair as have no tools to open the door up to get into the lock.

Has the door dropped?
Is the lock needing replaced?
Is the lock needing adjusted?

Ive only noticed this knock in the last two weeks, and highly frustrating as the I still hear it over my cd :(

Look forward to some troubleshooting advice....

windows are electric and are up. Nothing in drivers door pocket..

If I drive with the door open then no clunk, obviously this solution is not the best idea.

I had a similar problem with my passenger front door not closing properly. I took it to a dealer and they fixed it in less than 5 minutes. The car is under warranty but I dont think they even bothered with that as they didnt do any paperwork for it. Unfortunately I dont know what they did but I imagine they just adjusted the mechanism somehow.

I know somebody who had this on a different car, and it turned out to be the door hinge was loose. 5 mins in a dealer and all was sorted.

Food for thought?

another thing you could try if you think the lock mech. needs adjusting is wrapping some electrical tape aroung the lock stay on the b pillar and see if that stops it. if so take it to the dealers and just get them to adjust the lock slightly!!

Thought I'd solved this little mystery ... or at least come up with a possible cause

My passenger side door has just started doing it tonight - my god it does your tits in

Anyway, was about to suggest it might be the seatbelt - but obviously not on your driver's side. So tomorrow I'm going to plug the seatbelt in, and if that doesn't solve it I'm gonna wrap some black tape round the lock catch

...and I found this thread by doing a search :p so this reply should stick it back up near the top where all these suggestions can be easily found

I've got exactly the same and it's getting on my nut too... Looks like I'll be taking a trip to a stealer.. It's out of warranty so time to bend over :(

is it the lock barrell a bit loose ??

when you open the door look at the part where it catches the hinge etc theres some (from memory ) star bolds that hold the barel in place if these are loose then it may well move and rattle

I had this after I changed the door lock. Turned out I hadn't pushed the connecting plug in quite far enough. And it eventually dropped out and started banging against door.
