Door damping question

Hi,

This is my first post in this forum and I have a question about door damping.
But first a bit of background:
I ordered a black 1.4 100hp ibiza sensation(dutch model with 100 instead of 75hp, dubbel instead of single headlights, colorcoded doorhandles, climatronic instead of aircon and som chrome trimmings n stuff) in december(I'm getting it wednesday) and I asked the dealer can I give you some speakers and will you fit them for me? Sure he would.
Of course I got a call yesterday that they don't fit(too deep) and I answered yeah about 1cm and you need to use an adapter and then they'll fit.
They didn't understand  and so I said don't bother I'll do it myself just put in the cables, I'll do the rest and they said okay, again.

Still following me? :D

Well since I'll be doing the actual fitting myself I thought let's dampen the doors aswell. I read most of the forum here(searched etc) and I have just two questions left, and here they come:

Is it necessary to dampen the outerskin of the door?
so not just this bit as displayed in the driversidedoor pictures Muddyboots fotoalbum but also the behind the plate you can screw of? So the other side of the outside of the door.

Is it better to do it like the person in question(muddyboots) did to his passengerdoor? So if something is wrong you can still screw of that plate.

Has become quite the story but I thought better give it some background info

Thanx in advance,
Eric

Im abit of a Dynamat extreme freak. Think i have close on 20 rolls in the car at the moment!!

I took off the bit you see in Muddy's pics and put 2 rolls on each door then placed the metal sheet back in place and put 2 more rolls on it-being careful not to cover any screws/holes.

I like my sounds though so i need a well deadened area!! You will need to make your own adapters from MDF as afaik Autoleads dont do them yet. Be careful on choice of speaker. I had Alpine Type R 6.5" comps using a 18mm adapter and the windows still clipped the magnet!! 18mm is about as large as you can go or the woofer will hit the door card.

Yeah I know about the depth, I've read somewhere that the max depth is about 57mm without an adapter. Mine are Ground Zero's which are 67mm deep so I think I can clear the window with one ring of 18mm MDF.

Is it a pain to dampen the area behind the plate though? Since I never saw any pictures of it I really don't know how much work is involved with it.

It is worth the effort though?
I can see the face's here when the car is sitting on the driveway not even a day and I'm already ripping it apart and sticking stuff in it :D .

Let me guess: You're an engineer of some sort? :)

I think you're a bit like me. I don't feel as if I "properly" own something until I've taken it apart, grumbled about some aspect of the poor design, and then put it back together (possibly with some modification along the way). Cars, computers, hi-fi, video, washing machines, ... mine have all been disassembled, at least partly. It's like stamping your personal mark on it!

Non-engineers just don't understand, do they? ;)

Well I'm not an engineer.........yet :D but if you as a dealer start making comments like someone that has never even worked with that car I'll get worried and then I'd rather do it myself ;)

But yeah there is a bit of that feeling: I'd like to see how that works and if I can then improve on it, just do it.
It's a mass produced car but I like things my own way and that's most likely not entirely their way [B)] .

On topic though, is there only one person that dampend the entire door? Has the rest just stuck it on the plate in the middle then... like most of the pictures show.
