Was looking for the gearbox filler hole today as I wanted to change my gearbox oil and when I looked at the passenger side of the driveshaft (coming from the gearbox?!?), it looked a little damp. Bit worried now - does this look like somethings leaking or is it normal?:( (click on pic to make it big) If so what could it be?

Any help appreciated

looks like some grease was used to assemble the driveshaft and it has flung out as the shaft spins

the CV joint boot looks ok and doesn't look to have split or come loose

clean it off with some degreaser and see if it comes back

Thanks guys. Just I wanted to replace the gearbox oil after hearing a slight noise and was looking for the filler hole to see this.

I spoke to a mate (whos not seen it) and he said it can be the seal in there that could leak gearbox oil. But I've not noticed no oil leaks as surely it would stain my driveway I guess.

BTW, my CV and CV boot always sits like that all the time with the car to the ground. Is that normal they way it sits in the picture or should it be straight?

sorry I have no clue on these things.

Looks alright to me.

If the CV boot was leaking you'd have black grease flung everywhere.
If the gearbox oil seal was leaking it wouldn't be so dry around the gearbox.

Nothing to worry about with the angle of the boot either.

the driveshaft bolts to the diff dry and isnt like most driveshaft setups! as said by other people looks like just some grease has been put there before for some reason if the c.v boot had split lots of black grease would be everywhere! and would be very visable dont worry about it
