Ever since I discovered I could monitor the Air Intake Temp on the climate control I've been taking the odd look. (4c on the display)

Strange thing is it never reads above 10degC even in the hot weather we had last weekend!Fuel consumption has always been somewhat dissapointing on my pd130, could the map sensor be at fault?

The map sensor is a pressure sensor for monitoring the boost pressure, what are you on about?:)

Ps the cooler the air going in the better because cold air is denser than hot air, that's why there's an intercooler.

There is an external temp sensor for the air temp you read on the dash - They can go wrong :D

As above, Map sensor reads pressure AND temp of boosted air - They can go wrong. :D

Last night the temp was reading 8.6 regardless of how I was driving, the ambient was 10.5. Common sense says that's impossible. I'm going to have to take a look.

Anyone willing to mail me a functional one so I can swap it out and avoid the expensive mistake of buying one if I may not need to? I will of course purchase or return it.

What temp is this, where are you reading it? The ambient air temp will always be whatever is dictated by the weather, nothing to do with how you are driving. Read by the air temp sensor down by the foglight. You can't read the MAP sensor air temps without vagcom/VCDS.
