Does the ECU limit boost when you need an oil service?

Oil service indicator came on last week, this morning I noticed I'm low on boost.

Seems OK'ish up to 2k, then struggles and can't hear the turbo. Still gets to 4k, but sounds hollow.

Guess it could be bad news, or a simple reset the service indicator fix!

I'm leaning towards bad news, but can't confirm till I get VAG-COM on it tonight, although I'll reset oil indicator before leaving work and cross fingers.

Stranger things can happen but must admit it does not happen on mine.

Its the MAF, died an unhappy death, short to B+.

(at least I hope the fault is in the MAF, not the external wiring).

Sods law, I chucked my spare VAG MAF over Christmas as I was having a clearout and wasn't 100% sure it was OK. Well it was better than the one in there

this sounds exactly like what is wrong with my car. Can hear the turbo if just blipping the throttle and listening out the window, and doesnt feel too bad in the first few hundred rpm but as soon as you drive properly theres no boost and then when you stop and listen out the window again theres no turbo sound, until the car is switched off and then back on. looks like a new MAF is needed on mine then.

Just out of curiousity i notice ur in northants, do you have VAG COM? im in wellingborough'ish and really could do with getting my car hooked up and checked over and just on the lookout for someone local to help me out.

I thought I'd chucked my old MAF, and just ordered a new one.

Then I thought of one last box to check, and found it Fitted it just now and all is well again.

But, I'll have a new MAF here on Wednesday as I'm not going to annoy an eBay seller by trying to cancel it. So its a spare but you're welcome to borrow it to see if it fixes your issue.

I've only got the freebie Vag-com but will be buying a proper version sometime, just waiting for the new version of the CAN unit to come out (I'm presuming they'll be a new CAN version of the KII) as I want to future proof myself.

If you pick up one of the £10 cables off eBay, you can do a lot of stuff with it, well worth the money. Or you're welcome to come and freeze to death in my drive, unfortunately there's no room to work in the garage atm.
