I bought a 2008 1.9 tdi altea xl stylance and have just discovered it has the dreaded BXE engine code that is supposedly notorious for throwing conrods?? Is this true and is there anyway to prevent this from happening. Mine has 33k on the clock and full main dealer service history.

Basically, all you can do is drive carefully (as in Driving Miss Daisy) and keep it well maintained. Obviously the more you stress the engine, the more likely it is to fail.
