At the end of last year we paid £13,200 for WD04LZR , from SMC of Exeter, driving it home I thought it pulled to the left alot, phoning some friends later they all said the same "they all do that" but it was pulling left hard on acceleration, took it back to Smc and they took it off us and said they will lazer check it, long story short bent rear axle, My wife got a call at home and they explained we must have done the damage and want them to repair it (TO**ERS )
The service history with the car was fully stamped by Seat of Gatwick, we phoned them for some history of the car, head tech said " never seen that car in here before" we started to flap A LOT,
So bent rear axle and forged service history, and we bought it from a dealer.
Car went back to SMC Exeter and we got a full refund, only telling this story in case one of you guys are about too or have bought this motor

great news to hear you got it off your hands and into something better, when you're new to a car its hard to know what to do, and unless you get some decent mileage under you in the first few weeks you can easily end up with a car with issues. Well done for getting rid of it!
cheers

if anybody buying a used car (from dealership or wherever) got it independantly checked, is this sort of fault likely to be discovered? i'm thinking the likes of rac's 166 point vehicle examination, are they thorough enough to pinpoint this sort of thing?

I had an RAC approved vehical as my first car (a 1.3 Polo Coupe back in 1992), from LMC in London. I was having some issues with uneven tyre wear on the car and ended up calling the garage it came from up North to see if I could shed any light. Turns out it had been in a big accident and had the front end rebuilt. I couldn't be arsed to try for compensation as I'd have the car over a year so I shamelessly traded it in at a dealer for a Mk1 Golf. So much for the RAC inspection
