Do the wingmirrors fold in on your Mk3?

So, the in-laws have a 2003 1.4 Chill and the big air-brake mirror on the drivers side folds easily back towards the window to stop it getting knocked when parked.

But my 2000 Cool/S won't budge a freaking millimeter?
Did theyt change them?
Is mine siezed?
Is theirs broken?
Do your fold?

Oh, and neither of the cars mentioned have a folding Jeremy Beadle passenger side mirror.

Well, I've said this before, sorry, but my 2000MY Passat's mirrors still fold in easily. My daughter early 2002 6K Ibiza, has had seized driver's side mirror since she bought it at less than two years old, so maybe its Seat quality issues that are the problem. I've tried to get my daughter to get hold of a new mirror - even on ebay - but she was always too busy! That was until a month or so ago it got broken off while parked and she drove around for a week or so it seems with the mirror assembly rubbing against the car door - nice scratches! So that has cost her about £200 on parts and labour - could have been avoided if she reacted earlier (years earlier), the contact that broke it then would only have cracked the glass - and that also happened a few years before this incident, so she had been warned about it. I'm just quite amazed that the door had not been bent due to the mirror being jammed. I don't know why these pedestrian safety items are not checked at MOT time as they are not an option, the Europeon car regs have mandated them for about 25 years - they are not fitted for our convenience. So, in short, to anyone that has seized door mirrors, I'd try to replace them - freeing them up seems to be quite a job - if at all possible as the spring is quite strong!

I was under the impression (and this question has come up a few times before) that CUPRA mirrors do not fold. Mine don't.

I struck a low-flying bird the other day and the mirror glass pop'd out nicely. It was held in place by the heated mirror connections, and I put it back when I pulled over. Works as designed ;-)

I searched through the owners manual and there's no mention of them folding.

So can all of us with ones that don't move assume that they should and are siezed, not just fixed-position?
Does this include the small one?

Has anyone taken one off and can they tell me whats the easiest way to get 'into' it please?

you have to take the door card off and then then the little black plastic bit were the tweeter is mounted and you should be able to get it off there ( i think)

its an easy job
me and mate had to take the door card of this week due to me fitting a new drivers mirror

its just a bit fiddly
the door card itself is all clips that "pop" into place..

also changed the window switches for a laugh so mine is closer to me now

:D

No no

Sorry if you dont understand this lol.

They are simply wired up
3 wires leading to 3 switches,

1.driver window switch
2.passenger window switch
3.automatic lock from inside switch..

They are clipped into the underside of the door card which you cant see.
To get the door card off, simply wedge the plastic handle bit ( they are usually scrapped/worn) Then there are 3 main screws..

Then the bottom right corner, wedge that out

The door card should drop but will be held on with the wee driver nipple/ thing. ( its the bit that moves up and down when u lock the doors )

Mine are exactly the same, actually could see the mounting pulling the door frame itself as I tried to fold it, think it would buckle the metal before it moves!
Thats why I'm worried, its such a big mirror, if someone gives it a clout it could bugger the door up as it breaks.
