Now in Lincolnshire!
Hello guys, need some words of wisdom!

Temp gauge moved to the next line past the centre this morning while sitting in traffic for an hour! It did go down after a while but I've never seen it move from the centre mark before!

This normal???

according to the manual where it went is still within the normal working range
did the warning beep?
could be a dodge sensor
if it were me tho, it wld worry about it, as mine has never budged from half way ever

the temp can go above the center line, esp if in traffic for a period. (for the temp to never budge the fans/ecu would have to see into the future and anticipate an increase in temp. im not sure this is possible.. yet..)

the fans however should come on not too far past the center line and sort it out fairly quickly.
depends how far past it went whether this was normal or not.

if there is a problem then water pump and fan fuse are the most liekly faults, although the fuse going is often a sign that the fan motors are on the way out, or possibly due to overload, ie air con on and fans etc at the same time.

keep an eye on it, but it is normal to go past the line if it gets hot. just not too far!

Mine probably goes about 3 mm over the center line after a good thrashing followed by traffic - i wouldnt worry - assuming mine is ok lol

take caution

I had similer problem as you but it was on my audi a3. 1.8 Turbo. Mines temperature use to go up slighlty and drop back down.
I paid no attention. later in the week the temperture goes quicker than before and takes longer to cool down. Some suggested it was the fans not kicking in.

One day. it happened. as i was driving, you could hear odd sound but you had pay some attention espically when you foot it.
Later in the day the temperture shot up 110 degress and would go down.

The warning light only comes on when hit around 100 dgrees and higher.

The mechanic took the car in for whole day to check problem and let engine to cool down.

The problem yurned about to be the water pump as it totaly collasped, the fan spindle that are made from plastic cracked into two half.:-o

the water pump is a well known fault.
if you do get this its a case of taking off the cam belt etc, so its a pricey job. so may as well do the cam belt and tensioner at the same time.
also pay a little more and get tthe water pump with brass impellar.

however in this case id not panic. sounds pretty normal too me.

check the fuses on top of the battery, its a cheap fix and you dont have to put up with the stealers.

its worked for me, or at least while its cold and i am not using the air con.

mine has done this on a couple of occasions in the summer... but the fans always cut in quite quickly and it drops back down. My water pump was replaced with cambelt so i know its not that. Also causes mine to go into a limp mode...seems to revert to standard boost. Turn ignition off and then on again and its fine.
