Was bored tonight so an hour ago I decided to go out service the car.
As I always do I run a can of Wynns Engine Flush through the system, idling the car at 2000rpm for about 10 - 15 mins, dropped the oil, changed the spark plugs and put everything back together again, fine... then last of all went to change the oil filter.
Always change the oil filter last, don't know why, just do...
Anyway took my oil filter out and when I was taking it out of the plastic "tub" it completely disolved in my hands, I've never seen this before, made life difficult trying to remove the rest of the paper from the filter holder. got everything all cleaned out no bother and put back together and so on, guess I was just lucky it didn't actually disolve and start floating round my engine.
My question is this, did putting a can of engine flush in cause it to disolve of was it simply a cheap filter?
Last time I serviced the car was this time last year and again I changed everything, although last year I bought my parts from the local parts shop not the dealer like I did this time.

I was thinking while reading your post did he fit a cheapo filter? Then you said you did!
That may be your problem as I`ve always used Wynns flush when I have done my cars, although I have`nt serviced the beeza myself (yet).

Ive always used the carlube engine flush and injector cleaner before every service.

Sounds like it was probably the cheapo filter. You will know next year when you do it again and find the geuine part still intact.

Hum, going to the bother of flushing the lub system and then using cheap filter - naughty boy!

I tend to use Comma Petrol Flush as it can be left in the engine to do its work while you drive to work during the week before you change the oil. I'd think that its not so agressive as Wynns - but I like it that way as I flush once every year - oh and I've always used the manufacturer's own oil filters - I've thought that it makes good sense - that's all. I take it that you have not got snow and ice around right now - did you miss out last night?

Plenty of snow here, still -1 or so... just put the car up on the ramps and got on with it!
I've been using engine flush for 6 years although this is the car I've owned that uses a paper filter.
