Dilemma! Do I part ex my TDI FR for a LCR?

Ok folks, I'm having a bit of a dilemma! I've the TDI 150 for over a year now, and I feel I need something quicker!

I have two realistic options,

Number 1) Spend £400+ on REVO,
Number 2) Part ex it for a year older LCR for under £1000.

I do about 10-12K a year, so although the diesel is good but its not mega mileage so I'm thinking the running costs will prob be an additional £50 per month.

I've done various searches etc and read various threads but am after knowing how you peeps are finding the running costs are panning out for the LCR, for servicing, mpg etc so I can do a comparison between the two.

Out of interest did the 04 LCRs have illuminated vanity mirrors and a 12 volt outlet in the boot?

They all have the 12v in the boot mate but 04's don’t have the vanity lights (well mine hasnt).

Hard one mate, id say get the revo trial, see what you think then go test drive the LCR and you can compare the difference for your money. As for another £600 you have a new car with extras such as bigger wheels, brembos, nice seats (IMHO) etc

Servicing isn’t too bad, its tyres etc which push teh money up, but then if you changed your alloys you would have that problem anyway

Optimax currently at 101.9 so costs £57-£58 to fill the car upto full which will last approx 300miles.

You do 1000 miles a month and your speaking around £175 alone on fuel. How does this compare to your diesel?

Yes there is a 12v in boot, no about the mirrors! Didnt think LCR ever had them.

I'd agree with Scotty. Get the Revo trial and see if it satisfies you desire for more power...

If you're bored with the TDI, I don't think a Revo will change that as you're probably really hankering after the extra bits of the LCR.

The fuel is going to cost you a fair bit more though I would've thought. Especially if you make a habbit of using the extra power and do a lot of round town driving.

I dont think revo do a trial for diesels, they certainly dont round here, its just the petrol's that get the trial. I would say its going to cost you alot more in fuel, its going to be a more expensive car to run there is no way around it. If it where me i wouldnt as i was torn between the FR and LCR anyway but the extra insurance + massive tax + fuel put me off, lovely cars but not for me unless i earned another 6-7k per year it wouldnt be realistic if i wanted a social life aswell :)

i looked into buying an ibiza cupra TDI and the fuel costs per month are alot different than what you have quoted. £50 a month more? i would say more like £100 more. worth taking into account?

Thanks, this is the kind of info I'm after, According the trip computer (the second one that keeps accumalting) my FR is averaging 43mpg, don't get me wrong, I love the look of the car and performance is very impressive for a diesel its just a miss the rev needle racing around to 6K RPM.

I think I'm spending around £110 a month on fuel at the moment. How much is the tax on a LCR?

The next question I have is depreciation, (64 million dollar question!) What is likely to hang onto more of its value, a LCR or a TDI FR?

Revo don't do a trial for diesels although they do a money back guarantee.

The illuminated mirrors aren't a massive deal, its just the good lady who likes to check her self out :)

i never talk about mpg, just £-->miles.

i dont have an lcr, just a 180bhp Cupra but its around about the same. Put £50 in the Leon and expect about 300-320miles untill the light is back on.

how does that compare to your TDI?

LCR will lose more money im sure, Petrols always do over diesels. Saying that though, they have already lost alot so maybe it will start to slow abit? how long are you planning on keeping it, becasuse maybe that is something that wouldnt matter as much as you think?

It costs me just shy of £60 to fill up the LCR and that last around 300 miles on average of spirited driving. Depends what you run it on as I only put 98 and above in but you can run it on 95 which is a few p cheaper but with the way things are going I expect that to go up as well

LCR tax is the 2nd most expensive band you can get just lagging behind the 4x4 cruisers (X5/Range Rover sport etc)

£104.50 for 6 months (Just gone up from £92.75 in the last few weeks)
£205 for the year

Oil can become expensive especially if going round the chipping route. Costs around £50 for a good brand oil (5litres) and this should be done twice a year. Once on the service and once mid service.

Insurance will obviously go up

High power fwd and your eating tyres and pads every 10-15000miles.

Does get a little expensive when you add it all up.

Mine averages around the same as you, about 43-45 realistically and i put it about 120 a month in diesel. The tdi will hold its value better than a LCR there is no disputing that, neither will be hard to sell on though eventually as they are good cars.

Long and short of it is if u stick in £110 now its a rough guess but id say your going towards £180 in petrol. Its gonna cost more mate but if u need the speed go for it. I have always found as soon as you start itching for another car u give in eventually as you just talk yourself into it no matter how much you know you shouldnt for financial reasons.

Yeah, I agree, had the calculator out again. By my reckoning fuel costs will be extra £50-60 per month, insurance will be extra £133 per year and tax about an extra £80 per year. Making it somewhere around £70 extra a month to run.

This is exactly the problem, I've got that itching (for a new car!! )

Out of interst what do you LCR owners find the 2nd mpg counter (one that doesn't automatically reset) read over 1000 miles. I'm basing my calculations on it doing somewhere between 25 and 28mpg combined. Obviously this depends on driving style.

Maybe its time to toss a coin :headhurt:

i would seriously try a REVO'd 150 TDI leon, i think you will be very shocked at the difference and doubt you will see much difference between that and an LCR in performance ( real world)

Personaly, i bought my diesel to allow for the miles i did, but a month a go i moved offices and now spend most of my time on the train and tube, So in the last 4 weeks i have done a grand total of about 275 miles!!! But i will not be changing to a petrol, i like the driving style of the TDi way too much.

Test the REVO leon before making any sort of decision!!!
