Looking at changing from my 1.2 as im getting bored of it really and wanting a bit more power behind me. Also not just that as im not a speeder ;)

But just something thats more worthy of spending 100's on every few weeks, as the 1.2... you put alot into it but dont get alot back. A faster car would be different :)

So looking into the cupra/fr margin
Im 20 atm, been driving a year and a half, insurance is around 400 for my 1.2.

Done insurance quotes this is what ive had back;

Cupra Pet - £2400
Cupra Die - £2400
FR Pet - £1500
FR Die - £600

I would love a cupra, but dont think im gonna manage the insurance tbh, it would be a struggle tbh but would manage it if i really wanted it
So then thought fr, insurance is alot cheaper.. but why?
Whats the noticable differences in the cupra/fr? Looks and performance?

Also would go petrol as my full family is petrol heads and would 1. get slated for diesel and 2. wouldnt like cloud of darkness everytime i pull out to floor it ;)

Looks wise between the FR & Cupra im guessing is only the front bumper, alloys and seats on the inside?
Bumper i'd swap, wheels id obv change anyway and interior i'd retrim probably

This time round im looking to put alot more into the car so would be keeping it a good few years, spending more on it than i did to the 1.2 etc

Whats yer input?

Go for a derv sport 130 or the FR. Insurane and tax will be cheeper than petrol, and get far better mpg than petrol. And still puts a big smile on your face. Id never go back to petrol now!

I would say FR TDI all the way mate! Sod your family lol, as they'll be in your cloud of darkness!
Insurance group for the FR TDI is 7/8 I think?
Take one for a test drive, only one way to find out :)

Yep, go for a test drive in one, they are a force to be reckoned with. If like me you find the petrol one is more suited to you then at least you can say you had a go and didn't like it.

FR all the way (I would say that though!) I might be tempted with the diesel as it will be cheaper to tax and insure (and run if you do loads of miles) and you can always get it remapped to Cupra BHP in the future!

Insurance for either of the FR's are fine for me really, id prefer the price of the TDI but cant be helped

TDI's are alot easier to come by, but ive found;

2007 57 Reg SEAT Ibiza 1.8 20V T FR £8000

Which is not bad tbh, its like the only petrol one i can find!
Looking for 05/06+

Think i will get a test drive in one, dont wanna go out and buy it and end up not liking the black smoke etc when i floor it :lol:

Any idea the price difference in tax for the FR? or does it depend on your area?

Tax on the TDI is 120 quid a year mate.

Also if your insurance is around 600 quid for a standard one, thats around what I would pay for a standard one, and my last insurance quote, all mods declared (230bhp, ATB etc) came in at 800 quid

My 1.2 was 120 a year, just paid it yesterday :lol:

Overall loan + insurance both monthly would be about £310.. which is alright to be honest

Defo arrange a test drive for a derv then for a petrol (if they have any!) and see what i prefer, i thought the only difference would have been one had black smoke one didnt?
Whats the main differences between derv & petrol?

There are quite a few differences really: Tdi is 6 speed, 1.8T is 5 speed. Tdi engine is heavier and you drive them differently to make the most of the power (Tdi narrower power band but more torque) There maybe more but I can't think :headhurt:
